Why Should You work for Mise en Scène?

Mise en Scène is by Theater artists, for Theater Artists. So we get it. The seeing a thing in a store window, in a gallery, on the street and thinking "I could make that, but better". The (begrudging) knowledge that we all work better on deadlines. The importance of having a coworker to kibitz with. And more recently, the singular, all-encompassing frustration of COVID-19 and its resulting fallout. The Mise is here for all of us, to support in every sense of the word - financial, social, and artistic.

S

Support

Create from home. Create after hours at the shop. Create in a way that pleases your meticulous soul...in your own way, on your own damn time. And don't worry about the selling part  -   thats what we're for. Ship your product to us, and we'll do the photos, the posting, the promoting. Consider us your personal Stage Manager.

F

Flexibility

Help us inspire and educate our audience through your work, as we pursue our mission to close the space between audience and artist. Our goal is to help the public understand the environmental importance of investing in high quality goods, and what they're paying for when they buy quality artwork - your extensive experience, creative thought, high quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship.

Educate

E

The Mise is invested in making sure you are fairly paid for every single hour you put into your work. No more of this artists asking artists to work for free. We collaborate with you from the start to support your process, invest in your art, and make sure we can sell your product for the amount you deserve to be paid. As soon as an item is sold on the marketplace, the payment will be ready for your approval.

P

Get Paid

Theater People know better than anyone how to reduce, reuse, and recycle - while making a beautiful product that doesn't compromise craftsmanship. The products you create tell a story of things we do as second nature - saving scraps, remaking the old, placing value on longevity - and are important lessons for a larger audience as we unite in our work towards a more sustainable future.

FAQ

Questions? Answers.

What kind of products are sold on the Marketplace?

Clothing, woodwork, hats, wood carvings, shoes, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, metalwork....the list could go on and on. The Guidelines For Creation and Selling: As long as it a) consists of high quality, sustainbly sourced materials that b) have been put together with excellent craftsmanship, there is little chance that it will be denied a spot on the marketplace.

How, When and Where Do I Ship My Finished Product?

How: Send us an email once you are finished, and we will send you the shipping address. If your piece is even remotely fragile, be sure to protect it with padding and box filling. We recommend the basic USPS package insurance if you would like an extra layer of security and accountability. The Mise cannot take any responsibility for damage done to products in transit or before we recieve your package. When: When you're done! Need a second opinion on a last layer of varnish or a decorative top stitch? Give us a call. We always have an opinion and some support at the ready. Where: Once we get an email and photo of the finished product from you, we'll send along the shipping address, and answer any questions you might have about the shipping process.

How does the Pricing of my product work?

When you send the "I'm Done!" email, along with the photos you will include a "payment range" consisting of three amounts Amount #1: The delightful, buy-the-bar-a-round payment that you would be thrilled to recieve Amount #2: The payment that you feel is acceptable and realistic Amount #3: The lowest amount you are willing to accept, and still feel fairly paid for your work. Based on your assessment, our market knowledge, and what has been successful on the marketplace recently, we will price your art (usually somewhere inbetween amounts 1 and 2), photograph it and post it on the marketplace, with promotions on all of our social media accounts.

How do Returns and Refunds work?

Returns: The Customer has 7 days in which they can decide to return an unused item. They will pay to ship the item back to the Mise. Refunds: With the seven day period in mind, you can choose to be paid immediately upon the sale of the item, or we can hold your payment and complete it upon the end of the return period, seven days after the customer recieves the item. Unless you have immediate need of the funds, we would recommend waiting for payment until after the return period, in order to avoid the hassle of transferring and returning the funds. If you choose the second option, and adding in time for shipping and handling, you would recieve a paycheck about 12 - 15 days after the sale of your product.

What if my product does't sell?

Your product will stay available on the marketplace for up to 8 months. If your product has not sold in that time, we will get in touch with you about what you would like to do next. Option #1: We list the product "on sale" for near the lowest amount you are willing to accept. it will stay available on sale for another two months. Option #2: We remove the product from the marketplace, and ship it back to you. The Mise will cover all of the costs in shipping and handling. In order to prevent unsold products, the Mise will transparently communicate with you from the start to make sure that a) we think your product has a market and b) the price is one that will make both you and the purchaser of your art happy.

How Long Can my product stay on the Marketplace?

Products can stay on the marketplace for up to 8 months.
